Zeng Xiaomin’s Cantonese Opera performed and discussed in Guangzhou

Cantonese Opera fans were enchanted as Zeng Xiaomin performed her award winning ‘Madam White Snake · The Affection’ in Guangdong Cantonese Opera Art Center on Sept. 27.
The opera ‘Madam White Snake – The Affection’ is produced by Guangdong Cantonese Opera Institute. It brings the Cantonese Opera to modern performance stages, with dazzling lights and beautiful animations on LED screens.
Zeng Xiaomin, the Party Secretary, Vice President and diva of the institute, is the heroine in this opera. Her performance in this opera won her a trophy in Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award, China’s top award for drama.
On Sept 28, a seminar on Zeng Xiaomin’s Cantonese Opera performing art was held in Guangzhou. About 20 experts and scholars from China had exchanges and discussions about Zeng’s achievement in her inheritance and innovation of traditional opera at the seminar.
The seminar was co-hosted by Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture, Guangdong Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Guangdong Theatre Association.
“It is important to hold these seminars for promoting outstanding talents in culture sector, and producing more excellent art pieces,” said Shen Haixiong, a member of the standing committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Head of Guangdong Provincial Publicity Department.
Shen encouraged Zeng to continue her efforts for the innovation and development of Cantonese Opera as well as Guangdong’s literature and art.
