The 2nd China (Macao) High-quality Consumption Exhibition and Hengqin Global Bay Areas Forum is being held in Hengqin and Macao SAR from December 13 to 17 under an innovative form of "one exhibition, two places". This year, the forum’s theme is “World-class Bay Areas Lead an Open Economy”. Today, the High-quality Consumption Exhibition is taking place in Macao. What is the situation on the ground? SFC’s reporter Yang Yulai brings her report on the frontline.  

Yang Yulai: I am currently at the High-quality Consumption Exhibition in Macao. Focusing on "Quality, technology, service", the High-quality Consumption Exhibition this year involves various fields including "clothing, food, housing, transportation, tourism” etc. With an area of 72,000 square meters, the exhibition has invited about 150 enterprises to the scene. On my two sides, there are display booths of many well-known brands coming from Chinese mainland and Macao. 

There are many brands are being invited to the exhibition. What is the significance of this exhibition? What opportunities or benefits will the further development of the Greater Bay Area bring to them? Let’s watch the interview of SFC reporters with the participants on the spot.

We look forward to showcasing our products to the world through the platform of the High-quality Consumption Exhibition. We hope that based on a platform like Macao, we can achieve the promotion of Macao-branded and Macao-manufactured products globally. Currently, the global market promotion of our products are fully concentrated within our Macao-based company. We have extensively deployed both online and offline strategies, with promotions in supermarkets, pharmacies, and clinics offline, and established collaborations with several major e-commerce platforms here online. Our goal is to build a unique Macao brand.

Integration of Hengqin and Macao provides a great opportunity for our company. It allows us to produce our products in Macao under convenient conditions, and globally distribute our products. In addition, during the process of development, our parent company has received strong support from the Guangdong province and the city of Zhuhai Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and the industrial park where we operate. We also have some collaborative projects within Macao, including apply for some government projects, which also presents excellent opportunities for us.

We highly value this platform in Macao, seeking technological endeavors here and looking for more collaboration with local partners. We aim to implement collaboration plans in Macao, including mature solutions and new technologies for promotion in the local market. Macao is primarily a free port, allowing us to reach out to more overseas markets, particularly Portuguese-speaking countries for promotion and sales. This time, we brought some mainstream products including the latest ones to showcased here.

My name is Bartolomeu. I came from Brazil. I came to be part of this event. My family has a business of importation, exportation and also supermarket chain. So we are really interested about Chinese products. Such a big event is going on over here in Macao, I couldn't miss it. 

We're seeing like electronics, some art crafts from China, this kind of products from here. And also to offer the opposite like commodities or any other products that come from Brazil.

Definitely, I even know about Hengqin. Sorry for my pronunciation. And Macao is increasing a lot, becoming the new Silicon Valley. You guys are investing really well in this partnership with not only countries that are of the Portuguese-speaking I know about all the Latin America also explore there too.

Because all the investment that they are doing here about accommodating these big companies from Chinese mainland and like us from around the world. It's become a center for this kind of business. So you guys are investing technology here, AI, data, medical products (that) many want.Macao is like the center of it, so there's a huge potential.

The booming Macao's exhibition industry in recent years has endowed more vitality with emerging industries and enterprises. It is estimated that about 1,500 events will be held in Macao next year, an increase of about 50% over this year. About the further development of Macao's exhibition industry, Song Xiaodong, President of Macao Convention & Exhibition Association has been interviewed at the exhibition.

I think it can be analyzed in three levels. One is the combination of forum and exhibition. Moreover, holding an exhibition in two places is also an innovation. In addition, the exhibition can attract some high-end business travellers, driving Macao's cultural tourism consumption. At the same time, it can also promote the development of related industries in Macao. Therefore, exhibition economy is capable to promote the economic development. 

At the second level, the exhibition is co-hosted by Guangdong and Macao being held in two places. The form of exhibition itself can be seen as an innovation. It helps integrate the resources of Hengqin and Macao that attract more visitors for the exhibition. In terms of the gathering resources of all parties, the innovative exhibition has played an important role. 

Third, the exhibition focuses on “high-quality consumption”. We have invited high-end think tank experts and scholars, and people from business field to discuss the development of the Greater Bay Area, the current state of the high quality consumption, and the industry development of Macao “1+4” strategy. For the current economic development and integration of the GBA, and for Macao's diverse industries, the forum can provide some intellectual support. Therefore, the exhibition has made some contributions. 

In addition, from the perspective of the Macao SAR government, in the "1+4 model" industry strategy, exhibition is an important part. The conference and exhibition industry and the cultural and tourism industry are most basic and advantageous industry in Macao. Hopefully, driven by some large-scale projects, and brands with international influence the conference and exhibition industry of Macao will make more progress. 

We also hope the high-quality exhibition will be a platform to draw more attention to the development of the Greater Bay Area and Macao from a global perspective Through the resources aggregation, we aim to create more opportunities for exchanges among Macau's enterprises, especially for Macao’s small and medium-sized enterprises, enterprises from Chinese mainland, and even the world ones. 

In terms of this forum and exhibition, the achievements are impressive. Next year, we may plan to organize an exhibition on digital art, which will be held jointly in Hengqin and Macao. At the same time, we are also eager to further enhance the internationalization, professionalism, and market orientation of the forum and exhibition.

Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin has been established for two years. As of the first three quarters of this year, the number of registered commercial entities in the cooperation zone has exceeded 57,000, and the number of Macao-funded enterprises has exceeded 5,760. What role has the cooperation of Hengqin and Macao played in the strategy of “bringing in and going out”? Two guests from Macao organizations have the answers.

Firstly, I think the arrangement of the High-quality Consumption Exhibition is excellent. I noticed different exhibition stands in the scene. Such as here is the exhibition stand of Guangdong, and the Shanxi exhibition stand is over there. It's very convenient to learn about new high-quality products from different localities. Seeing many latest products, I immediately shared them with my wife. She's very happy that while in Macao, we can access the latest high-quality products from various provinces and cities in mainland China. Here, we can directly learn more about the products. And proceed with the next steps including purchases and more.So it's a fantastic exhibition, facing residents of Macao and various business travelers as well as a diverse audience, promote our country's products.

Through the platform of Macao, products can be exported to other regions more effectively, achieving better promotion and exporting these products to different parts of the world. We have various sales networks reaching different places, from Portuguese-speaking countries to worldwide. I believe the exhibition has played a significant role not only in showcasing products but also in facilitating future collaborations and better implementation.

I think it's a great idea. In terms of Macao's appropriately diversified economy. As mentioned in the opening ceremony of the Exhibition, there is a focus on “1+4 model” encompassing various industries including exhibitions, tourism, and more. Macao can fully utilize its role as a platform, and through exhibitions, to better showcase the country's products using more effective marketing strategies to promote the products worldwide. It's an excellent way to leverage Macao's strengths to assist our country, and play a supporting role in terms of promoting these products to more places. I hope for even better results and achievements, that also promotes diversified development of Macao’s economy.

Macao is a place that intersects the east and the west. Through the platform of High-quality Consumption Exhibition, Portuguese-speaking countries can be better accessed. It’s also a platform for public services and countries, some domestic enterprises such as oil companies can better access the market of Portuguese-speaking countries and the market of EU. 

In terms of Macao, we have always emphasized one center, one platform and one base. Moreover, “1+4 model” industry development strategy is also being emphasized. The conference and exhibition industry is an important part of it. After many years of development of the conference and exhibition industry, Macao's hardware and software are well accomplished. I consider it one of the best places to hold conferences domestically or abroad. The platform enables the organizers and the exhibitors to contact some customers or to find business opportunities.

In fact, it is very convenient for both sides to have a number of products. With the physical exhibitions in Macao, it will be more convenient for Macao locals or some overseas merchants, to access some domestic high-quality products.
